Don't get too excited, unless your left handed...
In an interview with ONM, Masahiro Sakurai, Producer, confirmed that Kid Icarus will make use of the new Circle Pad Pro accessory.
“The way we are using the Circle Pad Pro in the game is to provide support for left-handed gamers. We’ve made it possible to use the right Circle Pad in place of the left one.”
However, it won't be used to save the system from near game-killing controls. It will just gift left handed players a fair playing field.
“I didn’t know the specs of the Circle Pad Pro, or what it looked like, until Monster Hunter 3G was announced, so we weren’t able to do anything big with it in the time we had. Even if we had known about it from the start, I don’t know whether we would have used both Circle Pads in that way. This would end up being just the same as controls on other platforms and I think the quick aiming possible with the touch panel suits the game best.”
I've now played Kid Icarus: Uprising twice, and while the game is beautiful, both times I have struggled with the controls. Movement is controlled with the original circle pad, and aiming is controlled on screen whilst the player is also required to press the face buttons.
Its things like these that upset me about being a Nintendo gamer. There is a perfectly good solution to be used, but yet Sakurai is too stubborn to give gamers choice.
