Nintendo Investors Briefing Info

Nintendo today held an investor’s briefing following yesterdays financial reports, they covered evething from Wii U release date, software to 3DS DLC and demos….

Wii U

Satoru Iwata confirmed that Nintendo will debut the “final format” of the Wii U at E3 2012. Iwata also said “As we learned a bitter lesson with the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, we are trying to take every possible measure so that the Wii U will have a successful launch.”  [Source]

Implied release for Wii U – Japan in September and USA & Europe in November.

3DS

Nintendo are working on enhancing the 3DS line-up.

More third party collaborations, including online games.

On some of the slides relating to 3DS it was clearly visible that Nintendo is planning on enabling DLC in the November firmware update. However there were no signs of a payment system. However Kyodo reports that Iwata did touch on this, which will also be made available in November. Nintendo also plans to release first party software featuring DLC in 2012.

Third parties will be able to provide DLC also, apparently several have been looking forward to this.
eShop will also offer demos, with individual developers being able to control how many times each download can be played.

The eShop will also be upgraded to allow background downloads while the 3DS is in sleep mode.
Although not currently planned for November, eventually users will be able to visit the eShop on a PC or smartphone, users will be able to take a picture of the game they want via QR code, and instantly download via the 3DS. Nintendo are also looking into being able to purchase software via PC or smartphone. [Source]
