Nintendo Confirm New 'Wii U' Feature: Near-Field Communication

Thats right, some exciting concrete info came out of the investors briefing...

Nintendo  has confirmed plans to add NFC functionality to the 'Wii U' controller. NFC is short for Near Field Communication, NFC is a radio communication standard that's used in smart card systems like FeliCa and Mifare.

It will become possible to make cards and figurines that can electronically read and write data via noncontact NFC and expand new game-play in the video game world.

This functionality will also enable various other possibilities such as using it as a means of making micropayments.
